Network metric data used in analysis III from: Diversified cropping strengthens herbivore regulation by providing seasonal resource continuity to predators We studied the effect of management practices on Carabid predators diet composition in 19 fields in south-western Sweden. We asessed 10 diet metrics in predator-prey interaction networks at three sampling times throughout the crop growing season. Sampling was carried out early ('I'), mid ('II'), and late ('III') in the cropping season. Early sampling refers to tillering stage of the crop in May 2020, mid sampling to the heading stage of the crop in June 2020, and late season to ripening stage of the crop in July 2020. For further information, and exact calculation of metrics, see methods in the publication Heinen et al. (2024) 'Diversified cropping strengthens herbivore regulation by providing seasonal resource continuity to predators'. Journal of Applied Ecology. The data in the 'Data_submission_analysisIII.csv' file hase information on the asessed diet metrics collected in the 19 fields ('field') and three treatments ('treatment') present in the study. All metrics are calculated based on binary networks of predator-prey interactions. field: ID of the sampled field Metrics calculated based on genetic sequencing: Please note that genetic sequencing data is available here: https://datadryad.org/stash/share/nUWzdWjBLlyZPisJ2Ld0J0zvSkv8TkG-4NTHvGBVhLE MSPoverallI: Metric of mean shared partners, asessing the dietary overlap of Carabid predators during early tillering of the crop ('I') MSPoverallII: Metric of mean shared partners, asessing the dietary overlap of Carabid predators during heading stage of the crop ('II') MSPoverallIIII: Metric of mean shared partners, asessing the dietary overlap of Carabid predators during ripening of the crop ('III') The mean shared partners was calculated as implemented in the ‘grouplevel’ function of the package ‘bipartite’ (Rob-erts & Stone 1990, Stone & Roberts 1992) n.spoverallI: Metric describing the number of carabid species in the networks during early tillering of the crop ('I') n.spoverallII: Metric describing the number of carabid species in the networks during heading stage of the crop ('II') n.spoverallIII: Metric describing the number of carabid species in the networks during ripening of the crop ('III') The number of species was asessed as he sum of unique Carabid species per network VhI: Metric of herbivore vulnerabillity, during early tillering of the crop ('I') VhII: Metric of herbivore vulnerabillity, during heading stage of the crop ('II') VhIII: Metric of herbivore vulnerabillity, during ripening of the crop ('III') Vulnerabillity is calculated as the average number of predators, across all interatcions in the network VsfI: Metric of soil fauna vulnerabillity, during early tillering of the crop ('I') VsfII: Metric of soil fauna vulnerabillity, during heading stage of the crop ('II') VsfIII: Metric of soil fauna vulnerabillity, during ripening stage of the crop ('III') VigpI: Metric of intraguild prey vulnerabillity, during early tillering of the crop ('I') VigpII: Metric of intraguild prey vulnerabillity, during heading stage of the crop ('II') VigpIII: Metric of intraguild prey vulnerabillity, during ripening stage of the crop ('III') Metrics calculated based on sampling with sweepnetting, soil core extraction and pitfall trapping: IndepAbuHII: Number of individuals of herbivores sampled with sweepnetting during heading stage of the crop ('II') IndepAbuHIII: Number of individuals of herbivores sampled with sweepnetting during ripening stage of the crop ('III') IndepSRHII: Species richness of herbivores during heading stage of the crop ('II') IndepSRHIII: Species richness of herbivores during ripening stage of the crop ('III') Please note that due to sampling limitations at early tillering stage ('I'), no data on herbovore abundance or diveristy was sampled during the first sampling round.
