In autumn 2024, SND moved to the HVC building. After the first day of the network meeting, SND will host a reception in the atrium of the building.

Welcome to the SND Network meeting in Gothenburg 8–9 April

The SND Network meeting this spring is held at the University of Gothenburg. The theme for this meeting is the complex relationship between policy and practice in the transition to an Open Science system. We aim to highlight the gap between, on the one hand, the policies, regulations, and guidelines on various levels that regulate how Open Science is expected to be done in Sweden’s higher education institutions, and, on the other hand, the actual practices of researchers.

The network meeting is in Wallenbergsalen at the Wallenberg Conference Centre, from Tuesday, 8 April at 13:00 to Wednesday, 9 April at 12:00.

We are also offering several workshops on Tuesday morning (10:00–12:00) and Wednesday afternoon (13:00–15:30).

The Tuesday programme ends around 17:00 and is followed by a reception in SND’s new house, the HVC building (Hälsovetenskapligt Centrum), and a dinner at the Wallenberg Conference Centre and their restaurant Lyktan.

When: 8–9 april, 13:00–12:00

Where: Wallenberg Conference Centre

Registration: Registration is now closed.

Digital participation: It is still possible to participate remotely via Zoom ( Workshops excluded).

Following up on the KAFFE project

A status update of the KAFFE project (Kartläggning av Förmågor inom Forskningens E-infrastruktursystem, Mapping capabilities in the research e-infrastructure system). This project was launched at the SND Network meeting in October under the headline “Research data – From Concept to Completion” and aims to map the data related needs from researchers in relation to Sweden’s e-infrastructure landscape.

Coffee break

10:15–10:30

Språkbanken

Språkbanken (The Language Bank of Sweden) is a research infrastructure that builds on language resources and language technology to support research on language and language use. Here, Språkbanken  will present some of their openly available language data, tools, and methods.

10:30–11:15

The support functions for research data at the University of Gothenburg

A presentation of the university’s secure IT environment, TRE (Trusted Research Environment), and some recent rules concerning research data. TRE is a powerful environment for processing, collaborating on, and sharing data. The university’s rules concerning research data aim to ensure that research data are managed in a responsible manner and made accessible to use and share in compliance with the FAIR principles.

11:15–12:00

Panel on Open Science – policy and practice

The network meeting with close with a panel discussion on the gap between policy and practice. Sabina Anderberg (SU), Madeleine Dutoit (SND/MAU), Sanja Halling (VR), and Åke Ingerman (GU) talk to Stefan Ekman (SND) about the discrepancy between policy and practice and how we can address that in the work towards a system of Open Science.

Workshops

Day 1, 8 April

10:00–12:00  – SND for beginners

An introduction to SND and the work with open access to research data.

Contact: Elisabeth Strandhagen, SND.
Venue: Asien, Wallenberg Conference Centre

10:00–12:00 – Join us in creating the next generation of BAS Online

BAS Online is SND’s online course on data management, especially designed for staff who have recently started working in a function for research data support (DAU, Data Access Unit). The course aims to give a baseline knowledge that participants can then build on in areas like research data management, documentation, and legal matters.

It’s time to review and take BAS Online a step further! We want to invite you to an interactive workshop where we collect your requests, suggestions, and experiences. How do you use BAS Online? What works well and what can be improved?

This is an opportunity to influence the future version of the course and to make it more relevant and useful to new DAU staff.

Contact: David Rayner, Training Coordinator at SND.
Venue: Antarktis, Wallenberg Conference Centre

Day 2, 9 April

13:00–14:30 – Skills4EOSC: Building competence in Open Science

The goal of the Skills4EOSC project is to develop tools to train professionals in Open Science and research data management. The workshop will begin with a presentation of materials developed in the project, followed by a round table discussion about the Swedish conditions for competence development and data management training. It will end with a wider discussion and some concluding reflections.

Contact: Jeremy Azzopardi, Chalmers, and Arin Tham Savran, Research Data Advisor, SND.
Venue: Birgit Thilander, Academicum

13:00–15:30 – Certification of the Bolin Centre Database – a repository for climate and earth system data

The Flagship project on the Bolin Centre Database aims to prepare a CoreTrustSeal certification (CTS) for the database. The application process means that many aspects surrounding the database, from technical infrastructure to routines and workflows for data curation, need to be documented. The workshop will focus on the aspects of a CTS application that involves the curation process and workflow, and to work on curating a climate data dataset from a first version to publication. The purpose is to get familiar with the practical work on the database and to think about what information about curation and work processes may be relevant to a CTS application.

Venue: 4.044, Hälsovetenskapligt centrum (HVC)

13:00–15:00 – Efficient reuse of administrative research information from beginning to end

A free-standing continuation of the Flagship pilot that was conducted by Chalmers and KTH in collaboration with SND. The goal for the Flagship was to lessen the administrative burden for researchers by reusing information about research projects through machine-readable data management plans that communicate with other research administration systems, such as Swecris and SND’s DORIS.

The first hour of the workshop begins with a presentation of the Flagship; what has been achieved and how does the project team view the future directions and integrations? This is followed by a demonstration of technical solutions and tools, and time for discussion. During the second hour, there will be a hands-on demonstration for all who want to learn how to run a Python script to create a flow for their instance of DS Wizard or DMPonline.

Contact: Urban Andersson, librarian at CLS Operations Support, Chalmers.
Venue: Skäleberget, Hälsovetenskapligt centrum (HVC)

13:00–15:30 – Text analysis in Mink – Språkbanken’s data platform

On the Mink platform, you can perform an automatic language technology analysis of your own text material and explore it further on the Korp and Strix platforms.

This workshop will provide a presentation of how Mink works and how it can be used to process and analyse text material. Step by step you will see how a text corpus is managed – from uploaded texts to continued analysis.
