DORIS
DORIS is SND’s tool for describing and sharing research data, with the option of linking descriptions to various repositories and storage services. Datasets published through DORIS become searchable and available in the national research data portal Researchdata.se. DORIS supports the entire process for publishing datasets and enables both open and restricted access to research data.
All datasets in DORIS are reviewed before publication. This means that the quality of the metadata and documentation is checked and that data are made available in accordance with the FAIR principles. The only exception is datasets described through so-called Simplified registration, which involves a less extensive review. Datasets published via DORIS are assigned a persistent identifier (DOI) for each version, enabling correct citation and long-term referencing of the data.
DORIS offers, among other things:
- forms for describing datasets using standardized metadata fields, which can be adapted to different research domains
- support for making data openly accessible or available with restricted access
- version control for dataset descriptions
- machine-readable, standardized metadata that can be shared with other services and portals
- tools for tracking and managing requests for datasets published with restricted access.
Researchers get a clear overview of their dataset descriptions in DORIS. They can also create new versions or update metadata for published datasets.
Responsible organizations can use DORIS to gain an overview of their organization’s dataset descriptions and manage requests for access to datasets in a structured way.
By default, research data shared through DORIS are stored in SND’s repository, SND CARE. Members of the SND Network also have the option, through manual handling, to store data shared with restricted access locally. This requires a general agreement between SND and the responsible organization.
Integration with research data storage
A technical integration between DORIS and organizations’ own storage solutions is currently being developed. The aim is to allow the organization responsible for the data to retain control over storage and file management when researchers make their data available through DORIS. The integration is based on an API specification for communication between DORIS and the platforms where data are stored. For more information about storage integration and related collaboration, contact SND at snd@snd.se.
Language
Swedish and English.
Access to DORIS
DORIS is available here. It is accessible by login via accounts connected to SWAMID or ORCID, or by registering an account with SND.
Target group
Researchers and local functions for research data support.
Pricing
The service is free of charge for researchers. Functions for reviewing and publishing research data, and for managing data access requests, are available to members of the SND Network by agreement.
